General info:

Saltdalselva is suitable for all types of gear (see fishing rules) but is known for being a fine fly-fishing river. The river has an organized system for fishing with a division into zones/banks. The number of fishing licenses is limited, but it is relatively easy to obtain a license. The price level varies from zone to zone, but is not particularly high. Annual, weekly and daily passes are sold. The upper part of the river, as well as the feeder rivers Junkerdalselva and Lønselva, are very long zones where you can find undisturbed wilderness. In Junkerdalselva, the salmon go all the way up to Gamforsen at the tourist centre. In Lønselva, the stop is also called Gamforsen and is located 4.3 km above the river confluence.

The cycle path in Saltdal follows the Saltdal river all the way from Storjord to Rognan, and is recommended if you want to move quickly along the river without having to use a car. Bicycle hire can be found both at Nordland National Park Center and Nordnes Kro og Camping.

At Storjord, Lønselva and Junkerdalselva meet and become Saltdalselva, which from there flows approx. 40 km down towards Rognan, where it empties into the Saltdalsfjorden. Saltdalselva is the third largest watercourse in Nordland county.
