Solvågtinden
Solvågtinden, what a name and what a peak! If you come over from Sweden or Saltfjellet, it welcomes you elegantly to Salten and Saltdalen.
Solvågtinden
Solvågtinden rises 1559 meters above sea level, with an elevation gain of approximately 1400 meters from Storjord to the summit. Along the way, you’ll truly have the chance to feel your pulse quicken. The hike is manageable, featuring a mix of grass and easy-to-navigate stone fields. If the heat becomes too much, there are streams along the route where you can refill your water bottle. In the saddle between the northern and southern peaks lies an unnamed lake at 1290 meters, which offers great swimming opportunities. Here, you might take a break and enjoy the stunning views from the top.
Directions
To reach the starting point, drive on the E6 to Storjord. Parking is available at the Saltdal Tourist Center or along the road toward Junkerdalsura. If you start from the tourist center, follow the forest road north after crossing the suspension bridge over the river. After about 700 meters, turn right onto a well-defined path. After 2.5 kilometers, you will pass Storjordkoia, where there are rest opportunities. The trail leads you up to sparse terrain around 850 meters above sea level. Here, the path becomes less distinct, but the terrain is still pleasant to walk on. Keep heading north toward the pass between the two peaks; from there, a good trail will guide you all the way to the top. The lake at 1290 meters is passed on the north side. There is an airy section before reaching the southern peak, so be cautious near the cliffs.
